Zero-click exploits can infect a device simply by receiving a specially crafted message, even if it's never opened. Once installed, the spyware grants full access to files, cameras, and microphones.
Protecting against zero-click attacks is extremely difficult. Maintaining up-to-date operating systems and rebooting devices regularly can mitigate some risk, but high-profile targets are increasingly vulnerable.
